Hello Friends of Big Pocono State Park.
The Mountain Laurel Festival was a great success thanks to all who volunteered and participated in the event. Mother nature cooperated this year, and the weather was perfect for celebrating the history and the future of this special place.
Visitors to the festival were treated to park and local history, a tour of the Cattell House, and some hiking. Attendees had the opportunity to speak with volunteers at the Friend's tent, and with representatives of the Pocono Outdoor Club, Pocono and Jackson Townships Historical Society, and DCNR. Some were even lucky enough to hear some great stories from one of the park legends- Pocono Pete. All this while partaking of hot dogs and burgers (courtesy of Camelback), and great iced drink creations (courtesy of Nibors).
To add to the festivities were musician Rick Peoples, and bagpiper Jamie Carruthers . For those who missed the event, you may catch a news clip of it on BRCTV channel 13 news at 5:00 on Monday, June 21.
A special thanks to all the visitors who stopped by the Friends table to ask questions about the park, and who shared their own memories of coming to Big Pocono. Many visitors were interested in the Cattell House and the plans to restore the park views. Over $600 was raised for park improvement projects, including renovations of the Cattell House.
